Instructions on How to Make a Hairpiece template   The first step is to stretch plastic wrap over your head, twisting at the sides and holding it down firmly. Second run clear, see through, packing tape strips from front to back and from side to side - overlapping to form a hair template that will hide Trichotillomania and also hide Alopecia. Four layers are usually enough. Next using a permanent marker, draw the exact outline of the hair template, the sizing you want, including front recession lines, part placement (if any), hair direction, exactly as you want them on the finished hairpiece. Next remove the hair template from the head and cut off excess tape around edges.

Instructions on How to Make A Hair Template Pattern: Mans Hair System: Using a Sharpie permanent marker, draw pattern lines on the taped hair template while it is still on the head. Though requirements vary from patient to patient, some rules of thumb apply to most. Front hair line should usually be established by placing 3 or 4 of your fingers (depending on your age) about the brow line. Lines are drawn from that point to form a pattern, which covers the bald area. Deeper recessions look most natural.

Instructions on How to Make A Hair Template  Pattern: Womans Hair System: Side measurement is done like men's above. However, front to back is different. Because women typically thin in front but don't recede like men do, it is wise to use the natural bang and add hair behind it. (Some men may choose to do this technique also). Start your measurement about 1 inch behind natural front hair line, going over the top to back as far as it needs to cover the thin or balding area. Keep in mind if this is for a Trich patient you will need to have natural hair all around  hairline to make the track and sew weave machine procedure work correctly. Usually Trich clients do not tend to pull around the edge of hairline so that helps.

Start marking on the mold in front (Approx. 3 fingers above the brow will establish the natural hairline), Use a black marker. Out line the bald area at the hairline around perimeter. If attachment to the good hair is desired then the line must be drawn into the good hair 1/2 inch. Indicates part, if any.
